Setting up MR2 TDSE
When I got Mr. 2, it didn’t come with the remote and neither did I know that the MR2 has this factory option. Later upon reading the PO’s article, I realized it was paired with a key already. And it appears that you can only pair with two remotes.

So I decided to reset the ECU’s memory and pair with the new remote I bought from ebay. FCC BABEUC-1052

How to program TDSE

Mr2 Premium Sound System
When I got MR. 2, he has equipped some high power aftermarket amp with capacitor and two big subwoofers behind seats. I never enjoyed it as it blocked the entire frunk, took up space behind seats, drew much juice from the battery even for storing, and way overkilled for the small space for the Twos. After extensive research, I decided to revert it back to the factory original setup — 3n1 premium head unit with 6 speakers and 2 subwoofers.
Parts are not easy to come by. The head unit for the premium sound system is different from the standard one, and due to interface’s limitation, most were properly rid of by owners decades ago. So good luck finding one. And dealing with the brilliant “anti-theft system” is another challenge. I was lucky that I didn’t have to break my bank to find one.
The subwoofer set is the second hardest to find, in my opinion. In 93+, there are two subwoofers, one behind each seat in the storage compartment for the premium system, while there is only one behind the driver seat for the non premium system, or prior to 93’s. And since there aren’t many productions after 93 in the USA. It’s not easy to find the whole set. You would have better luck sourcing from UK, but subwoofers are big and bulky, so shipping would be expensive.
I found the amplifiers are the easiest to come by, with an exception of the right side subwoofer amp, which is for 93+ premium system only, in additional to the power amplifier, the left side subwoofer amp. But similar to the sub itself, it’s easy to find one from UK, and since it’s mall, shipping shouldn’t be a problem.
With all the parts, you are loosing the modern receiver’s cool feature, of course. But you get the cool and consistent OEM look. And the missing modern feature doesn’t bother me much. I don’t use built-in navigation no matter how modern or advanced it is, I like google map or waze more. The main feature I miss is the hand-free phone call, which a Bluetooth cassette adapter does the trick.
Mr2 Gen 3 Air Intake Conversion
Many people are doing Gen 2 to Gen 3 conversion to get rid of the AFM for the MAP. In my case, when I got Mr. Two, he’s with a Hydra EMS already. While I was doing the project of intercooler piping work, I found it hard to find a good air intake with the recirculating hose, which leads me to look back to the stock intake.

Parts:
- Gen 3 Air intake system

- Custom pipe
